Activity 1 - Discussion
The Three Zones
Share a story about a time you learned something new.

STUDENT/PLAYER GUIDE

The Comfort Zone is where you're most confident because it represents what you already know how to do. The Learning Zone is where you unlock new knowledge and skills through practice. The Danger Zone is where you're too scared to think much about what you're doing.

Step 1: Prepare to tell your bandmates a story about a recent experience you had in the Learning Zone. Think about a skill you learned that was challenging at first but you eventually figured out. Focus on how you felt as you persisted through confusion and failure, and then unlocked your new ability.

Step 2: Share your story with your group. Be sure to address the following questions:

  • What's the skill or concept you learned?
  • Why was it so challenging to learn?
  • How did you rise to the challenge?

Step 3: Share some KSHH feedback with a bandmate about their story.

TEACHER/PRODUCER GUIDE

  1. Nominate a player to share their story. Encourage them to explain their process.
  2. Nominate the next person to give KSHH to the previous player, and then present their story, and repeat until everyone has a turn.
