What's Your Jam?
Share a song that inspires you.

STUDENT/PLAYER GUIDE

Do you have a playlist? Is there a track on a mix tape that inspires you? Maybe a movie, series or TV soundtrack that you can listen to over and over? It's your turn to play DJ and share a track with your bandmates.

Step 1: Think about a piece of music you've heard recently that you really love.

Step 2: Share your tune with your bandmates. You might share a link to a streaming service, or play the song for the group in a video meeting directly through your web browser. Explain why the song you chose is meaningful to you.

  • What's the song called and who is the artist?
  • Why did you choose this song?
  • How did you discover the song? What was your experience like the very first time you heard it?

Step 3: Share some KSHH feedback with a bandmate about their story.

TEACHER/PRODUCER GUIDE

  1. We recommend starting each class with an icebreaker like this - it empowers students to engage, and helps them to better understand their classmates.
  2. Most important, students are learning to connect with their bandmates in a way that builds the necessary trust for them to collaborate and create safely with each other.
  3. Often, these discussions can open into learning opportunities as students discuss music, ideas, and concepts that are relevant and important to them.
