The Score
What's your favorite music from a movie?

STUDENT/PLAYER GUIDE

What's your favorite music from a movie? Why does it affect you? Movie music is also called the “score” or “soundtrack” - and its themes often enhance a scene or sequence.

Step 1: Think about one of your favorite movies, especially a movie that has music that you like. Is there a particular scene when the music and movie really work well together? Or maybe you just like the music overall. Have you ever listened to just the score or soundtrack without the film?

Step 2: Whether your choice features rebels in a galaxy far away, a team of superheroes, a class of wizards, or perhaps a story closer to home, share your soundtrack theme with the group - and discover your bandmates’ favorites.

Step 3: Share some KSHH feedback with a bandmate about their story.

TEACHER/PRODUCER GUIDE

  1. The goal of this exercise is for players to think deeper about film scores and reflect on the alchemy between music and imagery.
  2. Set a timer for 3-5 minutes to allow students time to think about a movie and soundtrack they like.
  3. Invite a few students to share their examples with the group. Encourage them to be specific with their descriptions. Consider how you might require students to frame their examples as stories. E.g., "In my favorite scene, Harry Potter is approaching Hogwarts School for the first time, and the music makes me feel excited and a bit nervous, because…”
  4. Invite at least one other player to respond with KSHH feedback. Repeat as time allows.
  5. Invite everyone to write a short paragraph about their movie music example and make them accessible to the group. Consider a Google doc or perhaps a discussion thread in your LMS.
