“Yes, the Light The Music materials are great! But their coaching and support are the greatest value for me in our program.”
Annamarie Bollino
President, Virginia Music Educators Association
Teaching & Learning Facilitator – Fine & Performing Arts, Stafford County Public Schools
"I love the layers of depth and sequential learning [in Light the Music]. You can delve deeper into music theory or keep it broad to accommodate student levels...
Todd Tinsley
Band Director at Hungary Creek Middle School
"Light the Music has 'lit the way' for music education to proceed. Students are able to apply real life music knowledge and understanding to a completely new format. This is student-centered and values student voice and choice in the creation of music that they connect with and relate to. Light the Music has unleashed creativity in my students that I have not seen before! I am excited to see the long term impact this has on my band program as a whole. I urge other music educators to join us on this journey."
Brianna Gatch,
Director of Bands at Clover Hill High School

Student Showcase

Floppy Scooper is a virtual band of high school wind ensemble players who formed during the pandemic of 2020. Their music is surreal and experimental... their video provocatively eclectic. This is an excerpt of their first music video project (Unit 11) - each student artist produced a "section" of measures,  then they blended, mixed, and added video. Enjoy!
This video features elementary school music students - they chose artist names and created profiles and avatars (Unit 1),  then composed their first music in Soundtrap (Unit 2 - Sonic Collage), and finished the project by making videos depicting ways they are passionate about the arts!
In the Soundtrack Challenge assignment, students can select a movie clip and then compose and record the soundtrack using their newly developed Soundtrap skills. In addition to how effective Isaac's score is, he also blew this out of the water, (pun intended), by prominently featuring his trombone playing skills!
Light The Music presents another band formed during the pandemic of 2020, in Clover Hill High School, Chesterfield, VA. Out of symphonic band came BaBM - a group so bold that they actually wrote and filmed their own rap performances in their first music video! This music video represents the first music they made collaboratively as a band, in (Units 1-8). Each student artist collaboratively composed and produced a "section" of measures in Soundtrap, then they blended, mixed, and added video.
