LIGHT THE MUSIC FAQ

What software or tools will our program need?

We provide instructions and activities for facilitators, admin, and students, compatible with Google Drive applications (Slides, Docs, Sites), and in LMS friendly formats for teachers. Participants use a digital audio workspace, or DAW, (GarageBand or Soundtrap), to work through LTM programming. We are happy to offer a variety of hardware and software packages to accommodate the unique needs of program participants and facility partners. Contact us for more information on purchase recommendations and offerings.

What is Creative Futures?

Creative Futures is a trauma-informed, career-connected program that uses music and digital media to engage youth in developing creative, technical, and social-emotional skills. Students learn to make music, podcasts, and videos — and build digital portfolios that showcase their growth.

Who is the Creative Futures program for?

We work primarily with juvenile justice, alternative education, and other high-need settings — though our model can be adapted for any school or community program that values creativity, collaboration, and career readiness.

What is the STAGES Curriculum?

STAGES is a project-based music and media curriculum that helps students build creative, technical, and career-connected skills step by step. Each “Stage” represents a new level of mastery—starting with making beats and basic recordings, and progressing through writing, producing, performing, and sharing original work. Students learn industry-relevant tools like digital audio workstations (DAWs), while also practicing collaboration, feedback, and presentation skills. Every Stage ends with a real-world portfolio project, such as a song, podcast, or video score, helping students develop both confidence and credentials for future opportunities.

Will participants use their instruments/voices?

Available equipment varies by facility and program type.. Our program empowers students to create music with any sounds they can record, including their voices/instruments, MIDI keyboards and drum machines, and even MIDI/music notation.

What outcomes can facilities expect while using Creative Futures?

Facilities consistently report higher engagement, fewer behavioral incidents, and a positive shift in culture. Staff notice improved teamwork, communication, and confidence among participants.

Who teaches the Creative Futures, Stages, or Music Tech program?

Your staff — teachers, counselors, or facilitators — deliver the program after our professional development training. Light the Music provides curriculum, ongoing support, and coaching.
